Wine

Pegasus Bay is a small family owned and operated winery in the Waipara Valley of North Canterbury. The Donaldson Family have been seriously involved in wine since the early 1970's and were pioneers of local grape growing and wine making. Associate Professor of Neurology, Ivan Donaldson is an international wine judge and oversees viticulture and wine styles at Pegasus Bay. His wife Christine is business manager, while their oldest son Matthew and his wife Lynnette are the wine makers. Another son Edward is Marketing Manager and as a trained chef oversees the winery restaurant, which his partner Belinda manages.
Pegasus Bay wines are made from 100% estate grown grapes from their Waipara Vineyard. "Our aim is to grow grapes of the highest quality which fully express the features of the vineyard and to handle these with the utmost respect. Natural methods and as little intervention from vine to bottle typify our approach. We believe in sustainable viticulture management, organic techniques, low crop levels and minimal handling of fruit during processing. We strive to make wines that deliver more than just upfront fruit."
